    Abstract

This paper proposes a four-piston monoblock brake caliper as a method for weight reduction of premium automobiles and introduces the overall process for its development. The proposed brake caliper is a model that applies an aluminum housing and resin pistons. Using a resin piston could become an innovative method for weight reduction because it can reduce the weight of a caliper without structural modifications. However, it is difficult to produce a resin piston that matches the performance of existing monoblock brake calipers (steel-type). For this reason, very few pistons of this type have been developed around the world. Thus, research on a monoblock brake caliper with resin pistons has academic value. This paper will introduce the overall process for its development.
